I suppose I should start at the very beginning which is, after all, a very good place to start. I hope you got that reference or else I just sounded weird. My name is Karen, if you didn't gather that from the username and I'm from Los Angeles, born and raised. I'm currently in my third year of university double majoring in history and English which is actually kind of exciting. I don't know exactly where I'm going to go with that, but the current plan is to go to graduate school for history, but we'll see how it all turns out. As I'm writing this, I'm in London spending my junior year studying at King's College London. I've fallen in love with this city, but Los Angeles will always be home. I do love to travel too. My parents dragged my sister and I all across the US every summer when I was growing up and I've been to various countries in Europe. There are few things I love more than visiting a new place. I spend entirely too much time online because I always have papers to write, but I end up opening a Word document and then screwing around on the Internet. It's my tragic flaw. I also have an unhealthy love for Disneyland. I had to let my Annual Pass expire due to studying abroad next year, but Disneyland is my happy place. When I was a senior in high school, my best friend and I used to go all the time. It's about a 45 minute drive from my house, but I don't care. I love Disneyland. Anyway, in my lj I write about fannish stuff or just things that I'm thinking about or amusing tales from my life, whatever I feel like at any given moment.
I did have this section entitled "religion", but "religion" isn't a word I like to use. I feel like the word "religion" implies that I believe that if I do certain things, then God will do certain things for me (e.g. forgive me), but that's not what I believe at all. I'm a Christian and my theological tendencies are Calvinist, but I don't like being defined by that so much. I'm trying to be more gospel minded and to see Christianity as something that shapes every aspect of my life. Subsequently, I've become a pacifist. I believe that as a Christian, my identity is found in Christ and not any nation that I'm a member of, so I can't support the killing of people from another nation on the basis of defending my own. I'm a Christian first and an American in a very distant second. I've really been influenced by the likes of Mark Driscoll, Francis Chan Donald Miller and Matt Chandler. If you're interested in reading more about how I got to where I am today, I wrote an entry all about this here.
Well, the thing is, I'm not an artist; I can barely find my way around Paint Shop Pro; and I'm not a super great writer. Subsequently, I'm not overly involved in fandom and fannish pursuits. However, I do enjoy a good discussion, analysis, or meta. I'm fairly involved in the Doctor Who fandom, especially the Doctor/Rose part of it. I'm also a member of Ravenclaw at hogwarts_elite which is full of awesome. Oh and I participate in the Lost on-going posts over at ack_attack's journal, but that's pretty much it.
